New film inspires improved accessibility in Gothenburg

This autumn, around 1,000 participants from across the globe will gather in Gothenburg for an international congress on spinal cord injuries. In connection with the event, a new film is being launched offering tips on how local businesses and organisations can make Gothenburg more accessible.

From 8–11 October, Gothenburg will host the scientific meeting of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and the Nordic Spinal Cord Society (NoSCoS) at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre. Researchers, healthcare professionals, and experts will share knowledge on spinal cord injuries. Among the guests will be around 40 wheelchair users.

Ahead of the congress, Göteborg & Co, in dialogue with Gothenburg Competence Centre for Spinal Cord Injury (Ryggmärgsskadecentrum Göteborg), has produced a film highlighting simple actions that can improve accessibility for wheelchair users. The film is aimed at hotels, restaurants, cafés, shops, museums, and other venues across the city.

Accessibility is already a strong focus in Gothenburg, and many local actors are working actively in this area. Even small measures can make a big difference for visitors and residents alike.
The hope is that the film will inspire both temporary adaptations ahead of the congress and long-term improvements throughout the city.

Please share the film and contribute to a Gothenburg where everyone feels welcome.
