European Citiverses Uniting for Inclusiveness

We shape smart destinations and the future of urban accessibility using the city’s digital twin, AI and innovative solutions.

On 1 October 2024, the EU project European Citiverses Uniting for Inclusiveness was launched. In this project, Göteborg & Co, together with 12 partners from five countries, will explore how technological solutions can make a city’s offering accessible in new ways. The aim is to make the city more accessible, while also positioning Gothenburg as an innovative, creative and more inclusive destination.

Using Gothenburg’s digital twin, an interactive, AI-driven platform will be developed with the goal of enabling visitors to explore the city in a way that best suits their individual needs. The ambition is to lower barriers and increase accessibility to the city for everyone, with a particular focus on families and children with special needs.

The project aims to develop Gothenburg’s digital twin into a user-friendly virtual environment that can serve as a benchmark for digital urban development in Sweden and across Europe. It aligns with the EU’s vision of ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens and upholding core values such as openness, inclusion, accessibility, integrity and sustainability. Active engagement from civil society, particularly families with children of different ages and abilities, will play a crucial role in piloting the tool throughout the process.

The goal is to deliver a scalable and replicable model of an accessible digital twin that can be applied to cities across Europe. This will set a new standard for digital inclusion and sustainable urban development.

In Gothenburg, European Citiverses Uniting for Inclusiveness is led by Göteborg & Co in collaboration with the City Planning Authority, Intraservice, Liseberg, RISE and Lindholmen Science Park. Additional partners are involved from Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Bulgaria and Romania.
