Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg
Each year, Göteborg & Co awards the honorary distinction Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg.

Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg: a long-standing tradition
As early as 1993, Göteborg & Co introduced the Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg, an honorary distinction awarded each year during a festive ceremony in Nordstan. Recipients have included sports stars, artists, presenters, renowned chefs and authors. Since 2024, the Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg has been presented in collaboration with the mediapartner Göteborgs-Posten.
But what does it take to receive the award? The Honourable Citizen of Gothenburg should:
- Have done something positive and meaningful that has made a difference to many
- Be a warm, kind-hearted and well-recognised individual
- Be born in Gothenburg—or elsewhere
- Be a good ambassador for Gothenburg
