International Science Festival Gothenburg

Every year since 1997, the International Science Festival Gothenburg has created forums for knowledge, inspiration and new perspectives. The festival aims to encourage positive attitudes towards research and science, with a target audience of schools and the general public.

The International Science Festival Gothenburg is a democratic platform that can be visited free of charge and is open to all. With hundreds of activities and more than a thousand hours of science every year, the festival continues to play an important role in outreach, sparking interest in research and science and inspiring young people to see the opportunities offered by higher education. The International Science Festival Gothenburg also has an important part to play as a credible platform that helps to counter polarisation and misinformation.

The theme for the 2026 event was “Truth & Consequences”. The 2026 Science Festival attracted over 34,000 participants, of whom 21,000 were children and young people taking part in the school programme. For children, the experiment workshop continues to be an important venue for inclusion, where thousands of pupils from nursery and primary schools can explore science in a playful and accessible way.
