EVS38 in Gothenburg 2025 was the result of a strategic, jointly driven bid to strengthen the region’s role in the transition to sustainable transport and position Gothenburg and Sweden as leaders in electrification. The event was used as a platform to accelerate the green transition, strengthen international visibility, and support long-term development within one of the region’s most important industries, with backing from around 80 stakeholders across industry, academia, the public sector, and civil society. This broad coalition reflected Gothenburg’s well-established model of collaboration and ensured both relevance and commitment from the outset.

Using the Gothenburg Way to Legacy framework, an impact project was developed in close collaboration with stakeholders, translating shared ambitions into concrete activities. These included demonstration projects such as the launch of a wireless charging station outside the venue and the EVS38 Electric Freight Initiative, where all goods transport to and from the event was carried out using electric vehicles. In parallel, education and talent-focused initiatives engaged students, teachers, and professionals through study visits, camps, and workshops, while a joint exhibition stand, site visits, and coordinated communication efforts strengthened international visibility and dialogue.

EVS38 was delivered in a rapidly changing context, where the automotive and battery industry shifted from strong growth expectations to increased uncertainty. In this context, the event became even more important as a platform to maintain Gothenburg’s relevance, demonstrate the strength of the wider ecosystem, and keep stakeholders engaged around electrification, skills, and collaboration.

By connecting events with education, industry collaboration, and communication, the project contributed to increased awareness, strengthened partnerships, and enhanced capabilities, supporting long-term innovation, talent attraction, and international positioning. Looking ahead, the main opportunity lies in scaling these collaborations and translating strengthened networks and visibility into concrete projects, investments, and sustained positioning.
