The development of Gothenburg toward greater sustainability has been underway for many years. By collaborating with congresses that prioritise sustainability, Gothenburg can contribute to a long-term positive impact. Collaboration is the destination’s superpower and a key success factor in its sustainability efforts.

With a congress venue such as the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre and a forward-thinking, sustainable destination like Gothenburg, there are strong opportunities for a conscious congress such as EAIE to further strengthen its sustainability work. The close collaboration between the congress venue, the city, and EAIE ensured the best possible sustainability outcomes throughout the event.

In addition to the local conditions and Gothenburg’s broader sustainability efforts, the organiser worked closely with the venue to ensure that delegates were served locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

Across the city, Gothenburg also demonstrated its strong sense of hosting. For the first time, a new welcome concept was introduced at Gothenburg Central Station, where green travellers arriving by train were greeted at a welcome desk with tourist information, something that was especially appreciated after long journeys from continental Europe.

A litter-picking activity was also organised at Röda Sten in support of the Plogging Foundation, a highly appreciated initiative that quickly became fully booked.
