International students and staff on tour in Gothenburg

Haga, Slottsskogen and of course Feskekôrka. These were some of the highlights which international students and internationally recruited staff got to see on Unimeet Gothenburg’s bus tour on April 10.

It was a partly cloudy Gothenburg that showed itself on April 10, when Unimeet arranged a guided bus tour for international students and internationally recruited staff. The guide on board recounted the history of Gothenburg and how the city has grown through the centuries.

Included sights were, among others, Avenyn, the harbor, Haga and Feskekôrka, and the lessons were many – such as the fact that New York Times crowned långgatorna, ‘the long streets’, to the hippest place in Gothenburg. It was also told about how iron was transported from all over Sweden to what is now Järntorget to be controlled, before it was sent out into the world.

The activity is one of many organized by Unimeet Gothenburg to showcase Gothenburg and all that the destination has to offer. The intention is to help international students, researchers, and university staff, explore of the city and, ideally, fostering a desire to remain in Gothenburg after finishing their studies.

Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and researchers and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
