Community Support

Events & Meetings can easily contribute to a good cause and a sustainable community. We connect you with a non-profit organisation or social enterprise of your choice.

Community support can involve supporting and strengthening the existing work of local actors in various ways, for example through collaborations, knowledge exchange, activities or resources linked to meetings, congress or events.

Alfons Åbergs Kulturhus (Alfie Atkins Cultural Centre)

The Alfons Åbergs Kulturhus is a creative cultural venue for children aged 0–8 and their adults, located in the former seed store in the Garden Society of Gothenburg. We support children’s development and rights through play, reading and learning. The organisation operates on a non-profit basis. Together, we are a playful, valuable and welcoming contributor to social sustainability.

Example of activities

  • Sponsor a theatre performance or guest production in an area facing socio-economic challenges.
  • Purchase a theatre performance or a “Mini Dance Party” for your event.
  • Donate toys to the organisation.
  • Make a financial contribution so that we can offer more free educational programmes for young children and their educators.
  • Become a Secret Friend and make it possible for more children to visit Alfie Atkins at home. Friendship tickets are distributed, for example, through the Gothenburg City Mission to families with children who are facing particularly difficult circumstances.

Coastal clean-up with the Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation

Engage event participants in cleaning up local waterways while learning about the environmental impact of litter. Activities include magnet fishing, cleaning birdhouses, and participating in ongoing environmental projects.

El Sistema’s Friends in Gothenburg

El Sistema uses music to create a positive social change in children’s lives. Their goal is to break alienation and include children and young people in meaningful contexts. The non-profit friend association supports the development of El Sistema, thereby contributing to a socially sustainable society, strengthening democracy and increasing integration.

Examples of activities:

  • Host an El Sistema concert at your event or meeting.

Fabrikörerna (The manufacturers)

Fabrikörerna is a sewing factory that sews products from recycled materials while also offering language and job training for people who are far from the labor market. Fabrikörerna helps your company with local production of, among other things, profile products, workwear and bags. They have a strong focus on quality and sustainability in their products.

Examples of offers:

  • Order an updated and recycled version of your work clothes.
  • Buy tote bags and bags made of recycled textiles with your logo on them.
  • Get help converting, for example, your old advertising banners into new products.

Parks and Landscape Administration

Help clean up the environment. The City of Gothenburg runs several initiatives, for example, “Take care of Gothenburg – Throw your litter in a bin”, to make it easier for us all to contribute to a cleaner world. The City of Gothenburg is a member of Keep Sweden Tidy, a non-profit organisation promoting recycling and combating litter through public awareness campaigns, awards, and environmental education.

 Examples of activities:

  • Volunteer to clean up public areas (materials provided and rubbish collected).
  • Organise a plogging event (jog and pick up litter).

Stadskupan

Stadskupan helps companies and organisations contribute to increased biodiversity in Gothenburg through concrete and locally rooted initiatives. The organisation creates environments that benefit pollinators, offers lectures and activities, and shows how small and large measures can make a real difference in the city. By collaborating with social enterprises, Stadskupan also contributes to social inclusion and long-term sustainability.

The Rescue Mission

The Rescue Mission’s social enterprises create sustainable business models that redistribute resources and strengthen people’s opportunities for work. By taking advantage of functional surpluses, such as food and clothing, we contribute to equalizing access to basic needs while creating employment and support for work for people who are far from the labor market. Our focus is work integration and long-term social change in areas where the needs are greatest.

Examples of activities:

  • Take care of what is left over after your event: Primarily food in closed packaging, but also clothing, furnishings and other functional surplus. What would otherwise risk becoming waste is taken care of and becomes of concrete benefit in our operations.
  • Create inclusive venues: As an organizer, you can influence who gets access to your event. You will receive help in creating events that are open, inclusive and rooted in the city’s real needs. Through the mobile application “MatRätten”, simple, tasty dishes based on food waste can also be offered at low prices, so that everyone has the opportunity to eat their fill at events and activities.
  • Contribute: The Rescue Mission runs four social store concepts and several other operations that welcome volunteers and non-profits. Together we tailor a specific effort that matches your capabilities and the needs in the city, practical, meaningful and locally rooted.
