The Rescue Mission is a non-profit association that conducts broad social work on a Christian foundation. People on the outskirts of society receive help, on their own terms, with emergency efforts and long-term relationships with the aim of creating a long-term change. Meeting places, housing activities, children’s camps and holiday activities, women’s protection and empowerment activities as well as on the job training are just some of the efforts made. Highlighting circumstances that lead to, or aggravate, vulnerability and exclusion in society and conducting counteracting activities also help making Gothenburg a more humane city. The Rescue Mission’s vision is “A worthy life for all”.
Ideas and examples of activities
There are many ways to contribute.
- Food waste can be donated to meet the Rescue Mission’s own operations as well as other organisations that work with social vulnerability in various forms.
- Donations can be made towards gifts organised by the association, e.g. clothing packages, lunch box, training and homework help, support calls and summer camp activities.
The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre donates food waste to the Rescue Mission; and organises a Christmas gift collection each year to the benefit of the disadvantaged.
