Guidelines for sustainable site visits
We aim to be a role model in sustainable destination development. Therefore, Göteborg & Co has guidelines for site visits, which are updated annually.
The following guidelines are standard procedures; however, exceptions may be made in certain cases (such as large luggage, visitors with disabilities, or when public transport is unavailable).
- For Swedish or Scandinavian visitors, we book travel by train or bus.
- When Göteborg & Co pays for flights, they are included in the City of Gothenburg’s internal carbon pricing system.
- We recommend public transport with VY Airport Coaches when travelling from/to the airport.
- When taxi travel is needed, we use Cab Online, procured by the City of Gothenburg. Cab Online strives to be a completely climate neutral company by transitioning to fossil fuel free vehicles by 2030. We always request electric cars as a first choice.
- For city tours and visits, we primarily walk or use public transport.
- Site visit programmes are sent digitally, including information on sustainability actions during the visit.
- Sustainability is central during the visit. We exemplify and inspire associations and meeting organisers to make their own meetings more sustainable and influence their team/sponsors/delegates to make sustainable choices.
- We ensure local suppliers are informed to emphasise sustainability practices to visitors.
- We only book sustainability certified hotels and visit restaurants that work actively with sustainability.
- In the event of souvenirs/giveaways, items are selected with sustainability considerations in mind.
- We inform visitors that tap water in Sweden is safe to drink and encourage them to use their refillable water bottles.
- We aspire to have zero discrepancies and report any that occur.
