Personal data in the book Gothenburg’s 400th Anniversary in Pictures
In 2012, Göteborg & Co was commissioned by the City Council to lead, coordinate, communicate and follow up the celebration of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary. The company summarised the celebrations, among other things, by producing the jubilee book Gothenburg’s 400th Anniversary in Pictures.
Why do we process personal data?
The book includes images of people to illustrate that the celebrations were inclusive and a public festival, which were guiding principles throughout the work on Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary. The images were taken on various occasions during the course of the project.
Images with models
In some cases, models were used for the photography and model agreements were signed. The legal basis for this processing is therefore contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Images from events, crowds, etc.
In other cases, it has not been possible for the company to obtain model agreements from the individuals appearing in the images. This may include, for example, images of large crowds at events or images of wider areas of the city where people are constantly present. The legal basis for this processing is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The company considers it important to include this type of imagery in order to demonstrate that the celebrations met the objectives of being inclusive and a public festival. Based on its assignment from the City Council, the company has a legitimate interest in using these images to fulfil this purpose. For such images, the company has taken measures to reduce the likelihood of identifying individuals, such as blurring parts of images or cropping them in a particular way.
How we use personal data
The book Gothenburg’s 400th Anniversary in Pictures is published on the company’s website as a PDF.
In addition, 1,500 copies of the book have been printed, of which 400 copies were distributed to randomly selected Gothenburg residents on several occasions in May 2024. A smaller number will be available at some of the city’s libraries. The book also forms part of the company’s final reporting of the project to the City Council and is provided to individuals who took part in planning and delivering the anniversary celebrations.
The book forms part of the reporting on the assignment to lead, coordinate, communicate and follow up the celebration of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary. It will be retained in accordance with applicable archival legislation.
