This June, researchers, clinicians and other experts in human genetics gathered in Gothenburg as the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) held its annual congress at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre. ESHG is one of Europe’s leading scientific meeting places for genetics and precision medicine.

This was the third time that ESHG chose Gothenburg as its host city. The congress was previously held here in 2010 and 2019, and has now returned once again.

An international congress returning to the same destination several times is the result of long-term relationships and close collaboration between the organiser, the host city and local partners.

The congress is held at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, while the programme also includes activities at several other venues across the city, including World of Volvo and Feskekyrkan.

Toys from the congress are donated to Räddningsmissionen

As part of the congress, childcare is offered for delegates travelling with children. To create a safe and welcoming environment, toys and other materials were purchased for the childcare facilities.

Once the congress has concluded, the toys will be donated to Räddningsmissionen, where they can benefit more children. Räddningsmissionen is a non-profit social work organisation with Christian values, based in Gothenburg. The initiative is a tangible example of how resources from an international congress can continue to create value even after the event has left the city.
