Gothenburg featured in international podcast on the future of sustainable food

Gothenburg is highlighted as a leading player in sustainable gastronomy in a new episode of the podcast series “Cities at the Table”, produced by the network The Food Capitals.

In the episode “Seafood, Seaweed, and the Making of Gothenburg’s Sustainable Food Future”, Jessica Ferey (Executive Director of The Food Capitals) discuss with Sofie Mantzaris (International PR Manager for Food Tourism at Göteborg & Co) and Martin Berg (Development Manager at the City of Gothenburg’s Exploitation Administration) how Gothenburg combines local seafood traditions, urban farming and innovation to shape a modern and sustainable food identity.

Gothenburg has a resilient and future-oriented food system while the city simultaneously strengthens its position as one of Northern Europe’s most dynamic food destinations.

From Bohuslän’s seafood and seaweed to urban farms, and the signature dish Gothenburg Royale, the conversation shows how the city reconnects people to food, place and each other. These initiatives are transformed into attractive experiences for visitors from all over the world.

“Food has a superpower: it can create genuine joy without having to cost much,” says Sofie Mantzaris in the podcast.

From its historic port (one of Europe’s most important hubs for fresh seafood) to today’s sustainable development initiatives, Gothenburg shows how gastronomy can contribute to both economic development and increased attractiveness.

By combining sustainability, enjoyment and local identity, Gothenburg continues to develop as a role model for the food cities of the future.
