Two days of free activities as NHL Hockey Day in Sweden comes to Gothenburg

In a 1,200-square-metre heated marquee, there will be activities for the whole family, with hockey at the heart of it all. In addition to around 20 interactive hockey activities, quizzes and competitions and more, the NHL game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers will also be shown on a big screen on Saturday 28 February at 18:30.

The initiative is part of the city’s work to increase the number of free events for residents and create more open meeting places for Gothenburg locals and visitors.

“We are working to increase the number of free events for Gothenburg residents, so this is a natural initiative for us to support. We have a strong connection to hockey through local clubs, Frölunda Hockey’s many players in the NHL, and the huge public interest in the sport. That makes it especially fun to be part of an event that brings together people of all ages right in the city centre,” says Magnus Hallberg, Deputy CEO and Head of Events at Göteborg & Co.

At Bältespännarparken, activities will take place on Friday 27 February, 16:00–21:00, and Saturday 28 February, 11:00–22:00. On site, visitors can enjoy, among other things:

  • On Saturday at 18:30, the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers will be shown on a big screen as part of Viaplay’s NHL Saturday broadcast.
  • Viaplay’s Niklas Jihde, Erik Granqvist and Niklas Holmgren will be on site together with Stanley Cup champion and former NHL player Viktor Stålberg. They will meet fans ahead of Saturday’s game and provide live commentary on site during the broadcast.
  • The NHL Global Fan Tour with around 20 interactive hockey activities including skills challenges, EA SPORTS™ NHL stations, bubble hockey and a Kids Corner with colouring sheets.
  • Quizzes, competitions and demonstrations from local clubs and community groups.
  • Sales of official NHL merchandise, as well as food and drink.

The game gives the audience the chance to see Swedish NHL stars such as Erik Karlsson and Mika Zibanejad face off in an exciting prime-time match. Viaplay will also be highlighting the event from Gothenburg.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone.
