Vrångö treated international students and staff to sunshine and laughter

On May 10, sunny Vrångö was visited by international students and internationally recruited staff to get a guided tour about the island’s history. The guiding brought the participants on a tour that alternated history with beautiful nature. This activity is one of many that Unimeet organizes to showcase the city’s rich nature and cultural life.

Vrångö was visited by around 40 international students, PhD students, doctors, researchers and staff on Saturday may 10, where they would get a guided tour on the island. The tour was led by Håkan Karlsten, CEO of Kajkanten, along with his colleague Gabriel, and brought the participants on a three-kilometer-long trail among cliffs and forest. The island, which is the southernmost of the Gothenburg archipelago, showed itself from its best side – the sun was shining, and the atmosphere was relaxed and happy among the participants.

Vrångö has a long history, where pirates, medieval burial grounds, and the ice age has affected the island during its lifetime. Multiple participants agreed that the guided tour nailed the tonality and that this type of activity was very appreciated. The tour treated the participants to both facts and laughter, and the varying nature settings showed what the archipelago has to offer for those who want to explore Gothenburg more.

The activity is one of many organized by Unimeet Gothenburg to showcase Gothenburg and all that the destination has to offer. The intention is to showcase the Gothenburg and help international students, researchers, and university staff, explore of the city and, ideally, fostering a desire to remain in Gothenburg after finishing their studies.

Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and researchers and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
