International students on a visit to Uper Group

On December 11, international IT students from Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg were welcomed to Uper Group. The students got to learn about the companies Uper Group consist of and listen to an international coworker speak about what it is like to come from outside of Sweden and work in a Swedish environment. They were also taught recruitment best practices and about Swedish labor laws. The company visit was organized by Unimeet Gothenburg with the aim of providing participants with a unique opportunity to learn more about the industry and expand their professional network.

Uper Group welcomed around 20 students within IT to their office in central Gothenburg on December 11. Uper Group, which consists of 5 companies, offered presentations of different aspects of their services. Enrique de Gouveia, consultant at Agoshi, spoke about how to stand out as a junior professional within the IT industry, and what is has been like joining the Swedish job market as a foreigner. Something he wanted to emphasise to the students was that passion for what you do will take you a long way. The attendants also got to listen to Daniel Elfstrand, CEO of Grid Collective, about working with green energy- and charging solutions and energy consumption and its challenges.

The visit also included the recruitment side of IT. Joakim Johansson, Talent Acquisition Manager at Cilbuper, talked about their talent programme and gave practical advice on CV contents and how to prepare for performing well on future job interviews. The students also got to ask questions regarding career opportunities and about the different areas of work at Uper Group.

Beichen Xie, a 22-year old Computer Science Masters student at Chalmers university of technology, thought the visit was good and helpful.

– It’s a good opportunity for us to communicate with the people who are in the industry in a friendly and convenient way.

Beichen also thought the recruitment best practices were great, especially since the students are from different cultures.

– It helps relieve several concerns, and it makes me more confident in the future applying process.

Unimeet Gothenburg’s ambition in organizing company visits for international students and researchers is to, together with the companies and employers in the Gothenburg region, showcase the city as an attractive workplace and attract future international talents to stay in Gothenburg after completing their studies.

Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and researchers and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
