Sightseeing with Paddan and Unimeet Gothenburg
On 16 September, around 70 international students, researchers, and staff from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg boarded the Paddan sightseeing boat. During the guided tour, participants had the opportunity to experience and learn more about Gothenburg and the city’s history. This activity is one of many that Unimeet Gothenburg organizes to showcase the city’s rich nature and cultural life.
It was a bright and beautiful autumn day when around seventy international students, researchers, and staff from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg were welcomed aboard one of the Paddan sightseeing boats for a guided tour of the city.
The participants experienced the old moat and the 17th-century canals from a waterside perspective while learning about Gothenburg’s construction and defence history. The boat tour took them beneath Gothenburg’s many low bridges and out into the harbour, where the guide shared insights into the city’s shipyard history, the fishing harbour, both new and historic buildings, as well as commercial and academic sites.
The activity is one of many organized by Unimeet Gothenburg to showcase Gothenburg and all that the destination has to offer. The intention is to help international students, researchers, and university staff, explore the city and, ideally, fostering a desire to remain in Gothenburg after finishing their studies.
Unimeet Gothenburg is a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, and The Trade & Industry Group at Göteborg & Co, aimed at strengthening the exchange between the universities’ international students and researchers and the business community, creating cultural and social meeting places, as well as networking opportunities.
