Gothenburg to host the largest life science partnering event in the Nordics

The Nordic Life Science Days (NLSDays) is concluded today in Malmö. During a Gothenburg seminar, it was revealed that Gothenburg will be the host city for next year’s event. Nearly 1,700 participants from the global life science sector are expected to gather in Gothenburg in 2025.

At Thursday’s NLSDays seminar, Business Region Göteborg, alongside companies and organisations in life science, showcased why global companies are investing more in research and development in Gothenburg than anywhere else in Sweden. The close collaboration between healthcare, academia, the city, and industry, combined with a strong “get-things-done” mentality, has made life science one of the most prioritised and rapidly growing sectors in the Gothenburg region.

The seminar ended with a formal welcome to Gothenburg 2025, accompanied by a film inviting participants to NLSDays in Gothenburg.

“NLSDays is the largest partnership and investment event for life science in the Nordics, attracting around 1,700 decision-makers, industry leaders, and innovators. Life science is an area where Gothenburg excels and prioritises. The congress gives the city not only valuable networking and collaboration opportunities but also will be able to showcase its strengths and capabilities to the right audience,” said Iris Öhrn, Investment Advisor for Life Science at Business Region Göteborg.

Göteborg & Co and Business Region Göteborg have worked closely throughout the process to bring the congress to Gothenburg. Hosting such congresses is also strategically important for the city.

“In the past decade, Göteborg & Co and Business Region Göteborg have put in extra efforts to position Gothenburg as a leading destination for business and innovation. By hosting high-profile events like NLSDays, the city strengthens its international profile and contributes to economic growth,” Iris concluded.

NLSDays is organised each year by SwedenBIO and will take place at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre from 13 to 14 October 2025.

During NLSDays 2025, the city will organise a series of events in collaboration with local stakeholders including Sahlgrenska Science Park, GoCo Health Innovation City and AstraZeneca.

Nordic Life Science Days focuses on innovations and partnerships within the life science sector. As the largest partnering conference in the Nordics, it attracts leading decision-makers from biotech, pharma and medtech, as well as finance, research, policy and regulatory authorities.

Life Science in Gothenburg

In the Gothenburg region, there are over 600 companies within life science, which together employ around 10,000 people, mainly in knowledge-intensive jobs. Ten of the companies have a turnover of over SEK one billion. Gothenburg is particularly strong in pharmaceutical development and advanced therapies, wound care and infections, hygiene and various forms of medical technology, or health tech.

A popular city for events

Gothenburg is one of Sweden’s main event cities. With venues that are conveniently located in the city centre, the city has made a strong impression on the international events map, not least in terms of conferences. Next year, for example, Gothenburg will also host EVS 38, the Electric Vehicle Symposium, an important global e-mobility event, and Vitalis, the largest digital health event in the Nordics.
