Gothenburg Celebrates Sustainable Gastronomy Day with an event on Sustainable Food

The UN General Assembly has designated 18th June as Sustainable Gastronomy Day to highlight gastronomy as a cultural expression related to the world’s natural and cultural diversity. On this day, events focusing on sustainable food will be held worldwide, including in Gothenburg.

On 18th June, Gothenburg’s restaurants and producers will gather at Poppels City Brewery to celebrate Sustainable Gastronomy Day. The event will feature inspiring talks, with for example the oyster diver Lotta Klemming from Bohuslän, meets with circular specialists such as Sofia B Olsson from the restaurant Vrå, and flavourful workshops to celebrate gastronomic diversity and drive the development of healthier food systems.

An Evening with Innovative Growers, Producers, and Chefs

From 16:00, the doors will open to the public to meet innovative growers, producers, chefs, and food artisans at Poppels City Brewery. For 375 SEK, the event includes live music/DJ, two drinks (beer or cider), and four circular snacks prepared by the chefs at Poppels. The celebration will then continue on the rooftop terrace Above at Scandic Göteborg Central for those who wish to stay longer. Read more about the public event here.

The event is organised by Circular Gastronomy Challenge, a forward-looking innovation programme that supports renewal projects from idea to reality. The innovation programme is run by Circular Gastronomy in collaboration with Vasakronan, Martin & Servera, Göteborg & Co, Västsverige, and several other actors, as well as representatives from business, academia, and organisations such as Axfoundation, Generation Waste, Good Food Capital, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Krinova Incubator & Science Park, KTH Food, Restaurant Academy, and RISE.
